This website is dedicated to the women of Sherborne in Dorset, who throughout history have contributed to the life of the town and beyond.
From aristocrats to almswomen, saints to suffragettes, and witches to war heroes – Strong Women of Sherborne celebrates both the extraordinary and the everyday women who have shaped the world we live in today.
While not claiming to be a definitive list, this is an ongoing historic research project and the lives of more Strong Women from Sherborne and the surrounding area will be added as they come to light.
We hope the stories of the women highlighted on this website will not only encourage the study of women’s history, but also be of interest to family historians and anyone wanting to find out more about the history of Sherborne.
